Judge Cappelli implemented the Traffic Intervention Program in 2008. The program assists defendants who are charged with Driving Under Suspension related charges. The cases are screened prior to arraignment for participation in this program. If selected, the defendants must complete several requirements which are unique to their individual case with the goal of obtaining a valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance within 120 days. At the final disposition hearing the defendant’s original charge of Driving Under Suspension is amended to Operating a Vehicle without a Valid Driver’s license which is a minor misdemeanor. The program is a vital component in reducing those drivers Driving Under Suspension and without insurance on our roads. In 2018, the program had its 10 year anniversary. Within those 10 years, 2,914 drivers obtained valid insurance and a Valid Driver’s license for an average successful completion rate of 74%.
